Germany

Germany was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. We visited the Glockenspiel and shopped around for some yummy treats at the biggest farmers market I've ever seen.

Gorgeous scenic drive

Saw this and thought of Buddy :)

The rest of this day we didn't take too many pictures because we went to Dachau concentration camp, and it was too sad to take pictures.

The next day was....well....very eventful to say the least. The first half of the day we explored King Ludwig's 2 castles, one of which is the castle that Walt Disney based his castle at Disney Land on.

After we left the castles is when our trip got pretty crazy. It's about 4:30 and we're making our way down out of the mountain, and Johnny Cash is on the radio. Preston starts asking Marilyn if she likes him and other questions, no response. Which is not unusual, sometimes she doesn't, and Grandma already fell asleep, so we didn't think too much of it. Preston asked her a couple more about a different song that had come on, and I had noticed she had made a few weird noises. I had the very strong impression to turn around to see if she was alright, and she was having a full blown seizure. Scariest thing I have ever seen in my life. So I yelled she's having a seizure, pull over!! She had bitten her tongue so hard that blood was running out of her mouth onto her shirt. We flagged down a car and this nice man drove us about 5 minutes away to the hospital in Fussen. The doctors were great, and very personable. They kept her overnight for observation and said we could come back the next morning. So we went home to our hotel (an hour away in Garmisch) and returned in the am only to find out she won't be released until late afternoon. Well there's not too much to do in Fussen, so we rented some bikes and went for a scenic bike ride.

Stopped by for a toboggan ride on the way

Well the trails were not marked off well, and we had been riding for a really long time and storm was about to blow in, and Grandma was getting super tired. So Preston took his shoelaces off and he tied it their bikes so he could pull her along, She was laughing and having a blast and it worked for  a while. For awhile. Preston made a turn and Grandma's tire rubbed against Preston's tire and she wiped out. On the Concrete. She was very lucky to not hurt her head because we were not wearing helmets ( lesson learned) but she had a pretty good size scrape on every limb of her body, a hematoma on her leg and later found out she had broken her left wrist. So we had a nice man, who didn't speak any English, drive us to the hospital, were Marilyn was waiting for us as she had been released. So we checked Grandma in to have her checked out and had just barely checked Marilyn out of the same hospital. You just can't make this up! I did take a picture of the 2 of them in the hospital but Grandma's camera isn't compatible with my computer. They were cute and gave us their most pitiful face for it though.

We're off to Switzerland, which is supposed to be all high adventure, so wish us luck!

The hills are alive.......

At the start of this trip, I was looking forward to Salzburg, Austria the least. I think mostly because I didn't know very much about the country, but after spending 2 days here I have definitely changed my mind  and it has become my favorite city we've visited so far. The drive in is breathtaking. We drove through numerous tunnels that were 3-15 miles long! After we checked into our hotel, our first excursion was to take a cable car up to a mountain and hike around for a bit. Grandma is deathly afraid of heights and closed her eyes and sang a song the entire ride up.

We ate at the top of the fortress and I had the most delicious grilled salmon and vegetables and Preston had this sausage, sauerkraut hash-brown dish, that was also to die for. Needless to say I was getting sick of Italian food, which is my least favorite type of food anyway!

Later that day we went on the Sound of Music tour on a bicycle! The highlight of my trip was this tour! We got to see the whole city on a bicycle and looking at  actual scenes from the movie. By the way, the movie is based on a true story (I didn't know that, think my parents did though) and Austrians don't know and don't want to know anything about the Sound of Music! Why?? I have no idea, but they're missing out for sure!

Famous for pretzels...this one was basically a donut

Our last morning in Salzburg was spent at the salt mines, which is where the name and the wealth of the city came from. The tour was great and the slides inside were really fun and steep!!

Venice

Absolutely my favorite city in Italy! Very clean, and you have to ride a boat or walk everywhere you go! We started our night off with a huge lobster and spaghetti dinner, Grandma does not mess around!!

The after!!

Bought some yummy licorice from this cute shop

Bought an etching from this man off the street

The next day we spent at the islands of Murano, famous for blown glass and we were able to walk through and see the masters at work, and the island of Burano where they make lace. Grandma bought the most beautiful outfit for Sammy and Laura's upcoming wedding.

He made this horse in about 30 seconds
We ended our trip with a lovely gondola ride in the evening, it was awesome! So many beautiful sites in Venice,

Sleeping on the vaporetto, we really wore these ladies out!
